The Santa Ana Winds are at it again, to say the least. I heard about the fires in Santa Barbara on Thursday night and started to hear more things about Southern California fires on Friday, but today is day 3 and the air here is thick with smoke. We are about 11 miles from a small fire in Brea and I've been watching the smoke rise over the tree-tops for about an hour so far. I was able to find a little online about it. Apparently a news copter spotted that one while en route to another fire in Corona or Yorba Linda at about noon.
We're safe here in La Mirada, though. We're in such a high-density residential area that the concern isn't that great for us. The fire would have to go through a couple cities before it reached us. The likelihood of that happening is slim to none. Our largest open-space area nearby is Creek Park...which is a storm drain/"creek" with grass and a few trees...not exactly timber.
So yes, if you're seeing the news reports that say something along the lines of "Southern California is on fire!" don't stress too much about me here. The smoke is getting worse, but it's windy and taking all the smoke from the Brea/Yorba Linda area our way. The picture is from my window a bit ago. The smoke is a lot more spread out now and the sky has that smoke-haze.
