I had an evaluation with my clinical instructor for our Older Adult rotation this afternoon to discuss how I did during the rotation. She said that I'm exactly where I need to be and making a lot of progress, which I guess is a good thing, right? On another note, she asked to keep one of my reflection papers to show to the Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) when they come to evaluate our program in the spring. I've never had a professor as to do that before and I didn't quite know what to say when she asked me besides: "Sure!"
Other than that, my roommate and I took all of Friday and rearranged our room. It is AMAZING and I'm so excited! My bed used to be lofted with my desk underneath, and now, for the first time in 4 years, I don't have to climb into bed to go to sleep! =) Yay!
We're in the mental health rotation now in clinicals. I had orientation on Thursday and my first 7 hour day Wednesday. I've never worked with patient's dealing that are severely bipolar or schitzophrenic, so I'm a little nervous. We go in groups of 5 and aren't allowed to go anywhere by ourselves inthe facility. It's a locked long-term facility, but residents are free most of the day to walk around as they wish. I'll update how the week went hopefully on Friday (without violating HIPPA, of course).
I went rock climbing on Saturday at an indoor gym! It was a whole lot of fun, but I can't say that I am particularly good at it. I made it to the top of one and did well on the others, but I wasn't stellar. It was a GYRAD (Get Your Roommate a Date) with the theme of GUYRAD (everything something a guy would like. G for games, U for being Underdressed because we were climbing, Y for Yummy Food, a BBQ, R for Rock Climbing and And Dessert of Rootbeer floats). The gym had a lot of different walls and I managed to make it out relatively unscathed.
Our volleyball team has one game left this season on Thursday night at 8:30 PM, let's hope we win! We're 0-6 now, but we have a lot of fun! That's all that matters, right? Yeah, except that I'm competitive. So...bummer. But really, we do have a great time on the court.
Anyway, not much else going on here in La Mirada. It's getting colder, but no rain besides one day of beautiful air-clearing wetness. Soon, soon, soon.
Well, off to write that paper. It's 11:00 now. It didn't take me an hour to write this, but I got distracted with the nightly 8-Minute Abs routine that a few of us do and then talking to my roommate (Amy) when she got home, and then checking email and listening to a song Amy played. I blame my distraction on having a test today and then feeling unmotivated after studying all day yesterday. =)
So yes, g'night.
Oh, here's a picture of me belaying when we were rock climbing Saturday.
